Nano-Engineered Film Has Refractive Index Near 1 A thin film with a refractive index close to that of air could be used to make photonic devices more efficient and mechanically stable. "By manipulating the structure of the aluminum oxide, which is dielectric, we've improved both its optical and mechanical properties," said North Carolina State University professor Chih-Hao Chang.

Profits Up at Exfo Despite Currency Concerns
The company said its decreased revenues resulted from unfavorable currency conversion rates. Sales decreased 3.8 percent to $222.1 million in fiscal 2015 from $230.8 million in fiscal 2014, but were stable year over year on a "constant currency" basis, the company said.
