  • II-VI Wins Contract for IR Targeting and Navigation Pods
Sep 2001
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 4 -- II-VI Inc. said that its subsidiary, Exotic Electro-Optics, a subsidiary of Laser Power Corp., has been awarded a contract from Northrop Grumman Electronic Sensors and Systems for the design, development and production of the integrated FLIR targeting system (IFTS) shroud assembly and the corresponding navigation turret assembly. These advanced electro-optical systems will significantly upgrade the F-16 aircraft capabilities and require state-of-the art precision optical fabrication, thin film coatings and electro-optical assemblies. Under this contract, Exotic Electro-Optics will deliver 88 sets of a multi-pane sapphire window assembly integrated into the IFTS shroud. In addition to the IFTS shroud, Exotic Electro-Optics will produce a similar number of turrets or navigation pods which incorporate a dome made of ALON.

The multi-year contract is for a total value of approximately $12 million and represents the largest single order in the history of Exotic Electro-Optics. Optional units may be purchased at the conclusion of this initial production.
