BEIJING, July 16 -- Tsinghua University's Department of Electronics Engineering and AIXTRON have signed an agreement to "increase technology transfer" in the field of GaN technology.

Tsinghua University owns an AIXTRON AIX 2000HT reactor for the growth of GaN-related material, including blue LEDs -- the company's first production-type GaN MOCVD system sale in mainland China. AIXTRON said it hopes the reactor will increase its business opportunities in China.

"Electronic and optoelectronic devices will play a crucial role in the rapidly growing Chinese economy," said Professor Yi Luo, who is responsible for scientific research at the university.
