SANTA BARBARA, Calif., August 29 -- The microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) markets are expected to triple between 2000 and 2005, from $3.8 billion to over $11 billion, according to a new report by Peripheral Research Corp. (PRC). MEMS devices have been used for years as sensors for automotive airbag deployment, inkjet printer heads, and blood-pressure sensors, the report said. During the next few years, the report says, new applications will emerge for MEMS in optical network switches, image sensors, accelerometers, drive-by wire automobile, brake-by-wire automobiles, biochips/DNA...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesLeonardo DRS Secures Army Contract; ZEISS Microscopy Strikes Contract: Week in Brief: 10/14/2022ARLINGTON, Va. — Leonardo DRS received a contract to produce its next-generation thermal weapon sights for the U.S. Army.
