Navy Picks Kaman for Airborne Sensor System

BLOOMFIELD, Conn., August 30 -- Kaman Aerospace's Electro-Optics Development Center (EODC) has joined a Northrop Grumman-led team that is designing and developing a rapid airborne mine clearance system (RAMICS) for the US Navy. Kaman EODC will primarily be responsible for the laser-based target sensor subsystem development. RAMICS, a helicopter-borne system, will consist of the target sensor subsystem, fire control subsystem, gun subsystem, munition subsystem and software. As the RAMICS prime contractor, Northrop Grumman will integrate these subsystems.

Kaman's 36-month subcontract is valued at approximately $7.6 million. The work will be performed in Tucson.
