Sumitomo to Distribute Kodak OLED Materials

Oct 2002
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 23 -- Eastman Kodak Co. announced that Sumitomo Corp. will distribute its organic light emitting diode (OLED) materials in Japan.

As part of the agreement, Kodak's Display Products business unit will work with Sumitomo to supply OLED materials to licensee customers and will collaborate on other research and development efforts in Japan.

Displays based on organic light-emitting diode offer bright, full-motion images that are viewable from a very wide angle. The displays comprise organic thin-film materials that emit light when stimulated by an electric charge.

Through the partnership, Sumitomo will allow local distributors and customers in Japan to place orders with Sumitomo customer service representatives for standard delivery in just a few business days. Sumitomo will distribute Kodak OLED materials such as electron transport material and hole transport material.

"Our customers in Japan expressed a clear desire to have a local distributor that could provide order services, stocking and invoicing in a manner familiar to Japanese companies," said Dan d'Almeida, vice president of marketing and sales for Kodak Display Products. "We expect this initiative will be well-timed to a general market expansion of OLED."
