L-3 Orders Philips PolyLED Displays

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, May 16 -- Royal Philips Electronics, based in the Netherlands, announced it has received an order for its polymer light-emitting diode (PolyLED) technology from L-3 Communications' Display Systems Div., of Alpharetta, Ga. Under the terms of this agreement, which Philips said is the first use of PolyLED technology in avionics, Philips will deliver customized PolyLED display modules for integration into cockpit instrumentation systems on commercial and military aircraft by the end of 2005.

Philips said PolyLED's low-power consumption and ability to operate under extreme temperature ranges, coupled with Philips' ability to cost-effectively manufacture the displays at high yields, make it an ideal solution for the stringent yet cost-conscious avionics market.

L-3 makes display systems for various airborne, shipboard and ground-based applications.
