Semiconductor Pioneer Receives IEEE Award

PISCATAWAY, N.J., June 24 -- Nick Holonyak Jr., a professor of electrical and computer engineering and physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, received The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 2003 Medal of Honor for his contributions to semiconductors and to visible light-emitting diodes and injection lasers. The award was presented at the annual IEEE honors ceremony last week in Nashville, Tenn.
