AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 10 -- Motorola Inc. announced today it has signed an agreement to acquire the assets of XtremeSpectrum Inc., a developer of ultrawideband (UWB) impulse radio -- a wireless technology for products such as set-top boxes, digital displays, camcorders, DVD players, digital video recorders and digital cameras.

Motorola said it plans to work closely with customers to embed the technology into various consumer products for demonstration by the end of this year. Motorola and XtremeSpectrum have been active in standardization efforts for UWB.

The transaction is subject to certain closing conditions and approvals and is expected to close within the week. Motorola said financial details will not be disclosed.
