Amersham, a London-based medical diagnostics company, announced it has licensed a class of molecules from the University of Pittsburgh that bind to amyloid plaque in the brain, which is key to tracking the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Amersham is evaluating agents that can be used with positron emission tomography, a nuclear medicine imaging technology that provides diagnostic information at the molecular level, to help diagnose the disease and lead to treatments.
