The Anne Penman Laser Center in Plano, Texas, offers low-level laser treatment to help smokers quit by mimicking the effects of a nicotine rush. The therapy is reportedly "soothing," which the clinic says is the result of endorphins being released into the body. Three treatments and counseling, including 24-hour backup support, come with the program, which costs $269. There are no studies proving the laser's effectiveness, but the center said half of its clients are still nicotine-free six months after treatment. It said it is trying to gain FDA approval so insurance will cover the cost, according to a published report.
