LightPath to Develop IR Optical Molding Technology

ORLANDO, Fla., April 24, 2006 -- LightPath Technologies announced it was recently awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant from the Naval Air Warfare Center to develop low-cost infrared optical component molding technologies for government and commercial applications. The amount of the grant was not disclosed. Under the research grant, directed by the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL), Lockheed Martin of Bethesda, Md., will provide technical support to LightPath, a manufacturer of optical products including precision-molded aspheric optics, collimator assemblies and laser components.     Not spherical; an optical element having one or more surfaces that are not spherical. The spherical surface of a lens may be slightly altered so as to reduce spherical aberration. Aspheric surfaces are frequently, but not necessarily, surfaces of revolution about the lens axis.
