A new photonics systems research and development center was opened Tuesday at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland. Micheál  Martin, minister for enterprise, trade and employment, officiated. The $9 million center will allow Irish scientists to undertake major research projects and collaborate with the photonics industry sector globally, reported Radio Telefís Éireann, Ireland's public service broadcaster.
