Substance in Blue Crab Shells is Key to Nanosensor

COLLEGE PARK, Md., July 31, 2006 -- A substance found in blue crab shells is a key component in a new nanoscale sensor system that can detect minute quantities of explosives, bioagents, chemicals and other dangerous materials in air and water. The sensor combines biotechnology and nanotechnology and could lead to the development of new systems to address critical homeland security needs. Chesapeake Bay blue crab.
