Hybrid Silicon Laser Chip That Emits, Guides Light Developed

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 18, 2006 -- Researchers announced today that they have, for the first time, combined the light-emitting properties of indium phosphide with the light-routing capabilities of silicon into a single hybrid chip, creating a chip that can transfer data by laser light.
