Siemens Buys Optical Inspection Business
In Germany, Siemens Automation and Drives Group of Nuremberg has acquired Opto-Control Elektronik Prüfsysteme GmbH. The Bochum-based company supplies precision optical inspection systems that use three-dimensional sensor technology to rapidly detect solder or placement flaws. Siemens will combine the systems with its Siplace surface mount technology placement machines to enable more reliable processing in electronics manufacturing. It will integrate the business into the Optical Solutions unit of the Electronics Assembly Systems division, which is covered by the company’s global sales and service network.
