Lauren I. Rugani

Although advancements in CdS nanowire synthesis and device fabrication have led to such optically driven applications as lasers, photodetectors and waveguides, there is little information on the fundamental properties of the nanowires and their morphological dependence. Researchers from the University of Cincinnati, from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., have combined low-temperature microphotoluminescence imaging and time-resolved photoluminescence to provide information on the electronic states and recombination modes of single CdS...Read full article

    Glossary
    nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
