Naked Optics Now Distributing NHG Glass

Glass and infrared materials supplier Naked Optics Corp. of Warren, N.J., announced last week it has signed a distribution agreement with Hubei New Huaguang Information Materials Co. (NHG) of Xiangfan, China. The glass inventory will be distributed from Naked Optics' New Jersey warehouse. NHG has been producing glass since 1969 and makes over 93 types. Its annual output of optical and specialty glasses is more than 15 million lbs. Naked Optics, which also distributes Pilkington Special Glass and Phoenix Optical Glass Ltd., said the NHG agreement comes after Pilkington announced last year that...Read full article

    Glossary
    glass
A noncrystalline, inorganic mixture of various metallic oxides fused by heating with glassifiers such as silica, or boric or phosphoric oxides. Common window or bottle glass is a mixture of soda, lime and sand, melted and cast, rolled or blown to shape. Most glasses are transparent in the visible spectrum and up to about 2.5 µm in the infrared, but some are opaque such as natural obsidian; these are, nevertheless, useful as mirror blanks. Traces of some elements such as cobalt, copper and...
    infrared
Infrared (IR) refers to the region of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths longer than those of visible light, but shorter than those of microwaves. The infrared spectrum spans wavelengths roughly between 700 nanometers (nm) and 1 millimeter (mm). It is divided into three main subcategories: Near-infrared (NIR): Wavelengths from approximately 700 nm to 1.4 micrometers (µm). Near-infrared light is often used in telecommunications, as well as in various imaging and sensing...
    optical
Pertaining to optics and the phenomena of light.
    optical glass
A glass that, during manufacture, is carefully controlled with respect to composition, melting, heat treatment, and other processing, to render its optical characteristics, such as its index of refraction, dispersion, transmittance, spectral transmittance, homogeneity, freedom from birefringence, permanence, etc., sufficient for its optical application.
    photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
