A brochure from Molecular Machines & Industries (MMI) AG details the mmi SmartCut Plus laser capture microdissection system, which consists of an inverted microscope with a motorized scanning stage, a solid-state laser, transfer optics and a computer that runs under MS Windows. The six-page document discusses applications of the tool in live cells, in forensic investigations, and in pathological, hematological and cytological samples. It covers sample preparation, including selection and cutting, target recovery with the mmi CapLift technology, and live-cell culture microdissection in the mmi CellChambers. Options for customized systems and the mmi CellTools software for system control are described. Screen shots and diagrams are provided.

An instrument consisting essentially of a tube 160 mm long, with an objective lens at the distant end and an eyepiece at the near end. The objective forms a real aerial image of the object in the focal plane of the eyepiece where it is observed by the eye. The overall magnifying power is equal to the linear magnification of the objective multiplied by the magnifying power of the eyepiece. The eyepiece can be replaced by a film to photograph the primary image, or a positive or negative relay...
