Michaelson Diagnostic Licenses Imaging Technology

Michelson Diagnostics Ltd. of Orpington, UK, has signed an exclusive worldwide license with University Health Network of Toronto to obtain a patent that covers the use of multiple optical beams to extend the depth of focus and to improve imaging performance in optical coherence tomography. The technology overcomes the problem of limited transverse optical resolution that is associated with Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography imaging. Teams from both organizations are collaborating to demonstrate the technology using in vivo flexible probes in animal imaging, working toward implementation in humans undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Glossary
optical coherence tomography
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique used in medical and scientific fields to capture high-resolution, cross-sectional images of biological tissues. It provides detailed, real-time, and three-dimensional visualization of tissue structures at the micrometer scale. OCT is particularly valuable in ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, and various other medical specialties. Here are the key features and components of optical coherence tomography: Principle of...
