UK Photonics Cluster Forms R&D Collaboration
The UK Photonics Cluster announced it has launched the Collaborative Partner Programme (CPP) to support research and development companies by facilitating members' access to financial support, support skills and technical facilities. The project is supported by organizations such as Pera, a UK-based international network of technology development and industry support centers; QinetiQ, a defense technology and security company based in England; and the National Physical Laboratory, the UK national measurement standards laboratory. The 200-member UK Photonics Cluster, formed in 2000, is located at Aston Science Park in Birmingham, England.
- The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
