For solid-state laser pumping, free-space communications, illumination, and medical and ophthalmic applications,
JDSU has introduced the 24×× series continuous-wave diode lasers. They operate in multilongitudinal mode with a spectral envelope width of ~2 nm FWHM, and they produce up to 5 W of output from a 100-μm aperture at 808 nm. The far-field beam divergence in the plane perpendicular to the
p-n junction is nearly Gaussian, and the lateral beam profile exhibits a multiple-transverse mode pattern.
