When military leaders want to fight off enemies, where do they turn? When multimedia and auto companies want to dazzle consumers, when forensic scientists want to solve a whodunit, when doctors want to help their patients avoid unsightly scars and when architects want to light up their buildings, where do they turn?

More and more, they turn to photonics.

Lasers, sensors, LEDs and other photonics-related technologies offer myriad solutions to problems facing professionals in nearly every field, and we’ve gathered some of the most exciting recent developments to provide a picture of where the industry is headed.
