The NIH has awarded Aculight Corp. of Bothell, Wash., a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant. The $750,000 award will fund a joint effort with Northwestern University of Evanston, Ill., to develop an optical cochlear implant. The researchers hope to create a device that will reproduce natural sound more accurately than does the current technology.
