!%Aspectrics Inc.%! has released an application note titled “100 Chemical Pictures Every Second,” which is downloadable from the company’s Web site. The two-page document describes an experiment in which an Aspectrics MC5000A 128-channel encoded photometric infrared (EP-IR) spectrometer covering the 2.5- to 5.0-μm spectral range recorded the kinetics of methanol explosive combustion. It indicates that the technique allows access to full spectrum information at a rate of 100 scans per second (one complete refresh of the total chemical information every 10 ms). It provides a diagram of the experimental setup as well as figures detailing emission spectra. The results revealed that the technology can capture reaction information over the entire spectral range in 30 ms.
