Blue/Violet Light Aid Ozone Detectors

FREIBURG, Germany, Jan. 21, 2010 – A highly sensitive, miniaturized chemical sensor that takes advantage of blue- to violet-wavelengths of light has been developed to detect ozone levels. Created at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) in Freiburg, the novel sensor can be used not only in air, but also in water and in the vicinity of explosive gases. The IAF is developing improved chemical sensors that are not prohibitively expensive.
