New Plastics for Cheaper Solar Panels

PRINCETON, N.J., April 9, 2010 — Newly produced, electricity-conducting plastics could dramatically lower the cost of manufacturing solar panels. By overcoming technical hurdles to producing plastics that are translucent, malleable and able to conduct electricity, Princeton University engineers have opened the door to broader use of the materials in a wide range of electrical devices. Princeton researchers have developed a new way to manufacture electronic devices made of plastic, employing a process that allows the materials to be formed into useful shapes while maintaining their ability to conduct electricity....Read full article

    indium tin oxide
A material widely used as a transparent conductive coating.
    nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
