VIRUS-W Views the Sky with 250+ Eyes

MUNICH, Germany, June 28, 2010 — At the end of May, the VIRUS-W spectrograph of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics and the University Observatory Munich was completed and made ready for installation at the McDonald Observatory near Ft. Davis, Texas. VIRUS is an acronym for Visible Integral-field Replicable Unit Spectrograph. The VIRUS-W was specifically designed to observe nearby spiral galaxies.
