The Infotonics Technology Center Inc. of Canandaigua, N.Y., and Mediscience Technology Corp. of Cherry Hill, N.J., have announced that they will join forces to develop an optical biopsy pill. A New York City-based investment group has committed to providing $5 million to $10 million to fund the project. The companies plan to further miniaturize Infotonic’s existing prototype of a camera pill with the goal of gaining FDA approval. The companies are designing the device to provide diagnostic information in addition to images of the digestive tract, which current cameras pills cannot do.
