Ericsson Signs Contract for Ukrainian SDH Network
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 9 -- Ericsson has signed a contract with UKRTELECOM in Ukraine for a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transmission backbone network. The contract, valued at $30 million, will make Ericsson the main supplier for backbone network infrastructure in Ukraine.
The contract calls for an SDH network to cover the southern and eastern parts of the country. The network will support long distance telecom services, including transit traffic to Russia, in what is considered to be one of Ukraine's largest industrial areas. The turnkey project also includes management and synchronization solutions. The system will incorporate optical cables supplied by Ericsson and a local manufacturer. Implementation is scheduled to begin this fall.
