  • Laser Components Expands Optics, Fiber Optics Production
Aug 2010
OLCHING, Germany, Aug. 10, 2010 — To provide improved delivery times and greater flexibility, Laser Components GmbH has expanded its lens production facility.

The new facilities provide the company with more space for new equipment, including additional polishing machines and an inspection and measurement microscope.

The expansion comes after a growing demand for the company’s lenses. The previous facility, which opened in 2008, has expanded to more than twice its original size, delivering an increased manufacturing capacity. Production includes curvature radii that span from the millimeter to meter range.

Laser Components manufactures components and services for the laser and optoelectronics industries.

A transparent optical component consisting of one or more pieces of optical glass with surfaces so curved (usually spherical) that they serve to converge or diverge the transmitted rays from an object, thus forming a real or virtual image of that object.
An instrument consisting essentially of a tube 160 mm long, with an objective lens at the distant end and an eyepiece at the near end. The objective forms a real aerial image of the object in the focal plane of the eyepiece where it is observed by the eye. The overall magnifying power is equal to the linear magnification of the objective multiplied by the magnifying power of the eyepiece. The eyepiece can be replaced by a film to photograph the primary image, or a positive or negative relay...
A sub-field of photonics that pertains to an electronic device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation. Any device that functions as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducer. Electro-optic often is used erroneously as a synonym.
