J-fiber Buys Fused Silica Tech from Schott Lithotec

JENA, Germany, March 8, 2011 — As a result of its recent acquisition of Schott Lithotec’s synthetic fused silica technology, the j-fiber Group can provide optics and laser markets with high-purity synthetic silica. The fall 2010 transaction involved the transfer of processes, people and expertise. Schott Lithotec is based in Mainz, Germany. J-fiber bought Schott’s fused silica melting process, including burner, annealing and selected machinery for further silica treatment, as well as measurement technology for quality assurance, process documentation material and patents. The company hired...Read full article

    fused silica
Glass consisting of almost pure silicon dioxide (SiO2). Also called vitreous silica. Frequently used in optical fibers and windows.
    lithography
Lithography is a key process used in microfabrication and semiconductor manufacturing to create intricate patterns on the surface of substrates, typically silicon wafers. It involves the transfer of a desired pattern onto a photosensitive material called a resist, which is coated onto the substrate. The resist is then selectively exposed to light or other radiation using a mask or reticle that contains the pattern of interest. The lithography process can be broadly categorized into several...
    optical glass
Optical glass refers to a type of glass specifically engineered and manufactured for use in optical components and systems, such as lenses, prisms, mirrors, and filters. Optical glass is characterized by its high transparency, low absorption, and precise optical properties, making it suitable for transmitting, refracting, reflecting, or dispersing light with minimal distortion or loss. Here are some key characteristics and properties of optical glass: High optical transparency: Optical...
