Center for Adaptive Optics to Be Established
For the first time in eight years, the National Science Board has approved another series of National Science Foundation Science and Technology Centers, including a facility for the study of adaptive optics at the University of California in Santa Cruz. The center will develop instruments that will find applications in fields including astronomy and ophthalmology, and will study how to correct for visual distortions.
The foundation instituted the program in 1987. The centers serve to promote research and encourage educational innovation.
