BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Nov. 7, 2011 — Hamamatsu Corp. has introduced two miniature Raman spectrometers.

The C11713CA and C11714CA offer spectral resolution of 0.3 nm and high throughput for Raman spectroscopy and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. They comprise a back-thinned CCD image sensor, a driver circuit and optical elements including a quartz transmission grating. There are no moving parts, so stable measurements are obtained at all times.
The back-thinned CCD has low etaloning characteristics, decreasing the chance of fluctuations in sensitivity. The C11713CA’s CCD image sensor has 2048 pixels and sensitivity from 500 to 600 nm, while the C11714CA’s has 1024 pixels and 790- to 920-nm sensitivity.
The spectrometers measure 120 × 60 × 70 mm, making them easy to integrate into equipment. They feature a slit size of 10 × 1000 µm and integration times between 10 ms and 10 s. Other features include a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter and a free evaluation software package through which users can set measurement conditions, acquire and save data, and display graphs. A dynamic link library (DLL) is supplied as an accessory to allow users to configure their own measurement software.
