has unveiled its sputtered long-wavelength-infrared optical coatings. The proprietary MicroDyn sputtering deposition platform now delivers 8-µm long-wave pass and 10-µm narrow-bandpass filters with good blocking capabilities. The in-band transmittance levels have been enhanced, making the thin-film coatings suitable for applications including gas sensing and thermal imaging. The company says that its new process creates sputtered films that feature better abrasion resistance than evaporated films and that are more economical to produce in higher volumes. Because of the intrinsically low temperature of the sputtering process, the coatings are compatible with photoresists, enabling the filters to be patterned using standard photolithographic techniques. The highly durable optical coatings include multilayer thin films for biomedical applications.
