Advanced materials company Materion Corp. of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, has acquired China-based optical thin-film filter maker EIS Optics Ltd. for $24 million in cash. Materion said the deal gives it a manufacturing base from which to better serve its rapidly growing Asian optical coatings businesses. Materion made the acquisition through its wholly owned subsidiary, Materion Advanced Materials Technologies and Services Inc. EIS Optics makes glass processing, lithography and optical subassemblies for the management of light in applications including medical instruments. Materion said the company also complements its position in thin-film optical filters that serve the medical market and many other sectors.
