NEWBURY PARK, Calif., Jan. 25, 2012 — Opto Diode Corp., a division of ITW and a member of the ITW Photonics Group, has introduced the third in a series of infrared LEDs, the OD-850L. Domestically manufactured using reliable liquid-phase epitaxially grown GaAlAs, the high-optical-output IR emitters feature a medium-emission angle for optimum coverage with good power density.

The OD-850L is designed to replace the company’s OD-880L medium-emission-angle LED. It features nearly 50% greater output power with less degradation and higher stability, and the 850-nm wavelength is better matched to phototransistors and optointegrated circuits. Suitable for industrial control tasks, the hermetically sealed standard TO-46 can is designed with gold-plated surfaces and window caps that are welded to the case for added durability.

The LEDs can be stored or operated at temperatures ranging from −40 to 100 °C. The package is suitable for use in optical encoders and photoelectric controls. Peak emission wavelength is 850 nm, total power output ranges from a minimum of 25 mW, with typical output at 35 mW, and peak forward current at 300 mA.
