Arnold to Manage IPG’s Midwest Sales

OXFORD, Mass., Feb. 28, 2012 — Industry veteran Kevin Arnold was appointed Midwest regional sales manager by fiber laser and amplifier manufacturer IPG Photonics Corp., the company announced Monday.

With more than 25 years in the industrial laser industry, Arnold has experience selling industrial lasers and systems to OEMs, integrators and end users. He most recently worked at ESAB Welding & Cutting and EWI.

“Fiber lasers have proven themselves in numerous applications and will continue to grow due to their reliability, high beam quality, high wall-plug efficiency, small footprint and lower total cost of ownership,” Arnold said. “Our fiber lasers will continue to offer considerable benefits as compared to older laser technologies. Fiber lasers have already become the tool of choice for many marking, welding, cutting, drilling and cladding applications and will only increase as more companies become aware of their capabilities.”

GLOSSARY
cladding
The low-refractive-index material that surrounds the core of an optical fiber to contain core light while protecting against surface contaminant scattering. In all-glass fibers, the cladding is glass. In plastic-clad silica fibers, the plastic cladding also may serve as the coating.
cutting
The process of forming a lens to a given pattern, or of cutting a piece of glass along the line of scratch.
