ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 4, 2012 — Optoelectronics supplier Advanced Photonix Inc. has signed a value-added reseller agreement with Automation and Control Technology (ACT) Inc. of Dublin, Ohio, for its T-Gauge industrial terahertz gauging system, the company announced Tuesday.

The T-Gauge system is ruggedized for deployment on the manufacturing floor for quality assurance and process control. The technology is adaptable to multiple sensor configurations, including robotic controls, to support a range of applications.

“The terahertz technology is the next generation of sophisticated measurement sensors that are destined to eventually displace many nucleonic and x-ray sensor applications,” said Charles Totel, president and CEO of ACT. “This next generation of safe sensors is capable of measuring multiple-layer products and providing high-precision measurements for each layer of a product.”

ACT provides complete gauging solutions for the continuous process industries using a modular open-system approach. Its solutions include terahertz, near-infrared, laser, x-ray and other sensor technology integrated with software to meet process needs.

Glossary
near-infrared
The shortest wavelengths of the infrared region, nominally 0.75 to 3 µm.
optoelectronics
Optoelectronics is a branch of electronics that focuses on the study and application of devices and systems that use light and its interactions with different materials. The term "optoelectronics" is a combination of "optics" and "electronics," reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of this field. Optoelectronic devices convert electrical signals into optical signals or vice versa, making them crucial in various technologies. Some key components and applications of optoelectronics include: ...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
process control
The collection and analysis of data relevant to monitoring the rate and quality of industrial production, either continuously or in batches. Corrections can be made manually or automatically, via a feedback control loop.
