JENA, Germany, June 11, 2012 — The VarioCam HD from Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems ESW GmbH is an uncooled handheld thermography camera featuring an eye-safe laser rangefinder for object distance measurements. The distance information is used for thermal image correction and supports the camera’s integrated autofocus function.

A GPS module enables tagging of geo-information to image data. Additional VIS still-image or video data is acquired by an integrated 8-megapixel CMOS camera that records radiometric images and image sequences with 1024 × 768-pixel resolution at a frame rate of up to 30 Hz. Proprietary optomechanical resolution enhancement technology boosts the XGA resolution to a maximum real-time 3.1 megapixel.
The camera features a 5.6-in. thin-film transistor display and a tiltable liquid-crystal-on-silicon viewfinder for image display and camera control. The bright display with 1280 × 800-pixel resolution is suitable for use in daylight conditions and enables on-site temperature analysis in real-time live-view or recorded thermograms.
Features include an IP54 industrial-quality housing, ergonomic one-hand operation and multiple standard interfaces, including GigE Vision and wireless interfaces such as WLAN and Bluetooth.
Matching a variety of thermal imaging applications, a choice of high-quality infrared optics is available, ranging from wide-angle to telephoto lenses. Typical applications for the camera are industrial and scientific R&D, predictive and preventive maintenance, and building inspection.
