BURLINGAME, Calif., Aug. 31, 2012 — The Neurobiotin 488 tracer trifunctional molecule from Vector Laboratories Inc. is designed for neuronal tracing and cell filling.
A bright-green fluorophore, it is similar in fluorescence to fluorescein, Cy2, Alexa Fluor 488 and DyLight 488. It features a biotin label with a biotinidase-resistant linkage and a fixable primary amine.
It is transported along axons and fine projections and is compatible with patch clamp applications and pressure injection methods. It is readily fixed with standard aldehyde-based fixatives. The tracer can be viewed directly with fluorescence microscopy and can be detected and amplified via the biotin moiety with fluorescence or enzyme-based avidin or streptavidin detection systems.
In a neuron of the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus of the brainstem in a mouse brain slice, Neurobiotin 488 was used for cell filling to identify the neuron from which patch clamp recordings were taken.
