Laser Quantum Buys Gigaoptics

STOCKPORT, England, Nov. 6, 2012 — Laser technology provider Laser Quantum UK has acquired Gigaoptics GmbH, a maker of Ti:sapphire gigahertz femtosecond lasers and oscillators, the company announced Tuesday. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Konstanz, Germany-based Gigaoptics has integrated Laser Quantum's Finesse and Opus pump lasers for its gigahertz systems for many years, Laser Quantum said, and the two companies collaborated recently on product development.

"The joining of our companies will provide sales and support for our customers right in the heart of the German-speaking territories, and bring new products with new capabilities and additional benefits to scientists and researchers working in the photonics and biophotonics field worldwide," said Laser Quantum CEO Dr. Lawrie Gloster.

Gigaoptics will be renamed Laser Quantum GmbH and will remain in Kostanz. Gigaoptics CEO Dr. Albrecht Bartels will remain as CEO of the new company.
