SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 12, 2012 — OmniVision Technologies Inc. has announced the OV5656, a 5-megapixel CameraChip sensor for the growing smartphone, tablet and digital video camera markets. It uses the proprietary 1.75-μm OmniBSI+ pixel architecture to deliver full-resolution, high-speed photography at 30 fps and high-definition (HD) video for video-centric applications.
The 1/3.2-in. sensor’s integrated scaler allows it to record 1080p HD video with electronic image stabilization while maintaining full field of view. Using 2 × 2 binning with a post-binning re-sampling filter, it captures 720p HD video at 60 fps. A high-speed four-lane mobile industry processor interface and an LVDS serial output interface facilitate the required high data transfer rate.
The OV5656 fits into a module size of 8.5 × 8.5 with a Z-height of <6 mm.
