Making critical contributions to the scientific, medical, life-sciences and defense markets, INCOM is the world’s largest supplier of glass and polymer fused fiber optics and microstructures. Our customers are world leading Manufacturers and researchers, and Incom is thrilled to contribute to the critical and innovative work being done in these areas. INCOM manufactured its first fiber optic faceplate in 1973, a product that paved the way for INCOM’s current dominance in the digital x-ray industry. INCOM’s foray into night vision began in 1985 by producing a fiber optic taper for an image intensification viewer used in Abrams tanks. In 1993, INCOM responded to tightened government requirements for night vision by utilizing its MEGAdraw process to develop the highest performance fiber optic available. In 2003, INCOM manufactured the largest diameter fiber optic taper ever made. These tapers captured huge imaging areas up to 200mm diameter, becoming the dominant enabling technology in X-Ray Crystallography and medical X-Ray.
A 2006 Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Science Foundation facilitated the development of Microcapillary and Microwell arrays. With dense patterns of miniature tubes and wells, these arrays allow for high-speed, high-density sampling, and microfluidic customization. In December 2011 INCOM acquired Paradigm Optics in Vancouver Washington. Paradigm is the world leader in fused polymer fiber optics and produces a variety of products for applications including displays. In April 2012, INCOM successfully produced an 8”X8” fully-functionalized Microchannel Plate along with Argonne National Labs (the largest MCP ever produced). These MCPs will facilitate new applications in Medical Imaging and Defense. INCOM continues to innovate with the energy of a company founded just yesterday. A world leader in commercial fused fiber optics, INCOM moves forward with unbridled passion by exploring, discovering, and manufacturing products that impact ordinary people in extraordinary ways.
