AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 31, 2013 — Optical Filter Source and Pellicori Optical Consulting have developed solar-blind UV filters for applications covering the UV regions: UVA (300 to 400 nm), UVB (280 to 300 nm) and the long-wave part of the UVC band (~225 to 280 nm).
There is a need for UV bandpass filters in the UVC spectrum at wavelengths shorter than ~270 nm that possess extreme rejection of solar energy at wavelengths longer than ~300 nm. The solar spectrum contains >99% of its total energy at wavelengths longer than ~300 nm, so very high rejection is required to permit detection of UV energy.
For many applications, the ultimate rejection level resulting from combined filter and detector response that can be achieved is dependent upon the sensor long-wave response. The combined response determines the in-band UV to out-of-band rejection, or contrast ratio.
Applications include forensics, defense, astronomy, atmospheric studies, document security, forgery detection, corona detection on power lines, medical, damage inspection, contamination detection and UV photography.
