CROISSY-BEAUBOURG, France, Feb. 28, 2013 — Flir Advanced Thermal Solutions has introduced a 100-mm USL (ultrasonic smart lens) lens for its Flir X6500sc thermal imaging cameras. The motorized
f/2 lens provides a 5.5º horizontal field of view, making it suitable for measuring the temperature of distant targets.
Applications include safe, remote temperature measurements of tires, brake disks, airbag deployment and other fast-moving objects observed from a distance.

Flir’s USL technology is embedded in every motorized lens available for the X6500sc cameras. It enhances the speed at which the lenses operate and improves positioning accuracy, enabling fast and precise autofocusing. Because the lenses use ultrasonic motors, the user can still adjust the focus manually, which is not possible with standard technologies.
Designed to provide ultrasensitive and accurate measurements, ease of use and advanced connectivity in a compact and full-featured system, the X6500sc thermal imaging cameras are for use by scientists and R&D professionals. Providing high-definition images of 640 × 512 pixels, the cameras reveal the faintest thermal behavior and the smallest details. Incorporating advanced detector technology, they can sense temperature differences smaller than 25 mK (18 mK, typically). With the proprietary lock-in facility, it is possible to process temperature differences as small as 1 mK and make them clearly visible. The cameras can measure temperatures up to 3000 ºC with accuracy of ±1 ºC.
