Selective plane microscopy uses conventional mounting/glass coverslips and generates 3-D volumes with isotropic resolution (330 nm in all directions). Axial resolution is approximately two times better than that of confocal or spinning-disk systems. It produces a seven to tenfold reduction in photobleaching. Acquisition rates are up to 200 images per second, or two to five volumes per second, roughly ten times faster than with spinning-disk microscopes.
