AUBURN, Mass., March 14, 2013 — Designed for closed-loop precision positioning systems, the C-884, 4-axis digital servo controller from PI (Physik Instrumente) LP can control motorized linear translation stages and rotary positioners with very high accuracy and repeatability.

The controller, equipped with a dual-core architecture for fast servo handling and command interpretation, features a high-speed encoder interface for direct-metrology linear and angular scales with resolutions down to the nanometer and microrad realm and below. Software tools such as PIMikroMove help users get up to speed quickly, without having to write a single line of code.

For programmers, PI’s General Command Set (GCS) simplifies the development of custom applications, reducing the risk for errors and accelerating the orientation phase and application development process. The commands are available at the controller terminal, in macros and as a universal driver set for LabView, Windows dynamic links libraries and Linux libraries.

Other functions include a data recorder for real-time recording or motor voltage, velocity, actual position and position errors, as well as a stand-alone capability. It supports motion profiles including linear vector and point-to-point, and it has an update rate of 20 kHz.
