  • REO Names Optics Rep. in China

BOULDER, Colo., Oct. 1, 2013 — Precision optics manufacturer REO has named HollyWinx Optics as its exclusive sales representative in China.

REO produces high-precision thin-film coatings, optics and optomechanical assemblies for the UV-VIS-IR for manufacturers of defense and aerospace systems, laser systems, semiconductor tools, medical systems, life sciences instrumentation and telecom equipment.

HollyWinx was founded in 2009 by David Wu, who has more than a decade of experience in marketing photonics technology in China, and Mel Francis, who has expertise in optical system design and thin-film engineering. The Shanghai-based company specializes in selling high-performance optics and thin films into the Chinese laser, materials processing, photovoltaics, automotive, biomedical, advanced lighting, projection, display and semiconductor industries.

“Selling optics made in the United States into China represents the opposite of the typical flow,” Francis said. “But components with finer levels of surface finish and higher-performance coatings are not readily obtainable in China. This provides an opportunity for precision optics manufacturers, such as REO, to service more demanding applications.”
