CENSIS Appoints Interim CEO

CENSIS, a new innovation center for sensors and imaging systems based at the University of Glasgow, has named Dave Clark interim CEO, effective next month.

Clark joins the center from Thales Optronics, where he was technical and product management director for business in the UK and worldwide. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde’s Institute of Photonics.

“We are very fortunate to have Dave join us on an interim basis while the center seeks a permanent CEO,” said CENSIS chairman Bob Downes. “He brings a wealth of experience and specialized knowledge in sensors, imaging systems and business. We look forward to working together to take CENSIS into its next stage of development.”

Last spring, the Scottish Funding Council pledged £10 million (about $16.2 million) over the next five years to support the innovation center, where 11 Scottish universities and 22 industry partners, so far, will work together to bring innovative sensor products to market. Academic partners include the universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Highlands and Islands, Stirling, Strathclyde, and West of Scotland; Glasgow Caledonian, Heriot Watt and Robert Gordon universities; and the Glasgow School of Art. Industry partners include Freescale, Texas Instruments, IBM, ST Microelectronics, Thales Optronics and BAE Systems.

Some of the industries the center will target for its sensors include energy, defense, ocean science, manufacturing and process control, food and drink, health care and the life sciences, pharmaceuticals and drug discovery.

“I look forward to working closely with the team to determine the key priorities and associated actions to deliver the first stages of the operating plan,” Clark said. “Once these are in place, we can aim high in our business objectives.”
